Vail Daily, November 28, 1999 by Karen Wilhelm The family investor should consider setting up a web portal with a provider like Netscape.com, Yahoo.com or Quicken.com. You can configure your personal page, that displays every time you log on to the Internet, with your stock preferences, news stories you want to read, weather information for your preferred locations and much more. As a Vail Valley home owner, or prospective buyer, you want to be able to evaluate the trends in the real estate market, see what is being offered, determine who are the Top Producing and Best Agents and Companies, and keep up with the local news that affects your investment. The Internet provides just the ticket and these sites are getting better all the time. On a National Level, www.realtor.com is the website of the National Association of REALTORs and provides general information on buying, selling, moving, home improvements, insurance, mortgages and more. Specific information is plentiful on finding a real estate company or agent, or searching their national MLS database for homes offered for sale in almost all areas of the country. The Vail Board of REALTORs website www.VBR.net provides an MLS search of over 1,400 properties for sale on-line, a membership roster of real estate companies, individual agents; company websites, agent websites and affiliated businesses that serve the real estate market. For additional Vail-specific information, go to your favorite search engine and try the keywords "vail colorado real estate" or whatever keywords seem to work best for you. (The most visited search engines are aol.com, yahoo.com and msn.com.) The resulting display will be a long list of the real estate companies and agents that provide an online presence. This online presence comes in various colors. First there is the website that merely offers information about a company or an agent, a name, a phone number and maybe a personality profile. The next level of online presence is the website that provides clients with information about the area and the real estate market: descriptions, home prices and values, a reference list for activities and services, frequently asked questions, the ability to ask other questions, and helpful links to other sites. A step above this would be a site that provides MLS access and virtual tours of properties being offered. As a buyer or a seller you can use the Internet as a tool to evaluate the real estate company and agent that would best serve your needs. The ongoing efforts that go into these real estate websites indicate a strong commitment to providing a global presence, information and service to clients. Go online and see the wealth of information available. Karen Wilhelm, MBA, CRS, GRI is a REALTOR and a Broker for
