A description of each major residential area in Eagle County follows (see map). Links to property searches for each area are contained within each paragraph. The terms "Vail Valley" and "Eagle County" are often interchanged. The populated areas of Eagle County are mostly within just a few miles of I-70 stretching from east to west. The rest of Eagle County is mostly National Forest and Wilderness Areas. At the east end of the county, Vail Pass is at an elevation of 10,600 ft. About 60 miles west, the entrance to Glenwood Canyon is at an elevation of about 6,000 ft. (Map). Vail Village - Vail Village and Lionshead are the core areas of the ski resort where the restaurants, shops, lodges and lifts are located. The Village and Lionshead are separated by about a half mile, both have a gondola, ski lifts & a parking structure and there is a free bus running continuously between these areas. The area has some luxury single family and duplex residences, but mostly has condos. Cascade Village / Glen Lyon - immediately west of Lionshead, this area has high-end single family, duplex and condo residences.
There is one chairlift from the base of the Cascade Hotel providing ski-in/ski-out access.
The free Town of Vail bus stops here for easy access to Vail Village and Lionshead. Spraddle Creek - immediately north of Vail Village with huge views south over ski mountain, this area has a small number high-end single family residences. East Vail / Booth Creek - This is the area about 4-5 miles east of Vail Village beyond the Vail Golf Course and toward Vail Pass.
The area has condominiums, but consists primarily of single family and duplex residences.
There is a very small commercial section.
This area is in a wonderful location because of it's alpine setting, waterfalls, easy access to the Eagle's Nest Wilderness Area, National Forests, hiking and backpacking.
It is on the free Town of Vail bus route and it is on the Vail bike path.
10 minutes to Vail Village and 90 minutes to Denver.
Ideal for many (like me ... this is where I live). Vail Golf Course - just east of Vail Village, this area surrounds the public-play Vail Municipal Golf Course.
High-end single family, duplex, townhome and condo residences.
Served by the free Town of Vail bus system, but is a short 10-minute walk to the Village. Potato Patch / Sandstone - this area is immediately north of Vail Village and Lionshead on the north side of I-70.
Condominiums, single family, duplex and townhome residences all close to the action of Vail and Lionshead. West Vail - this area is 2-3 miles west of vail and includes single family, duplex and condo residences.
Lodging and a commercial area is also located here. This area is referred to as the "Interconnect" because of the village-to-village skiing from Beaver Creek to Bachelor Gulch to Arrowhead. Beaver Creek - is tucked away in a beautiful alpine valley. A gated community with single family, duplex, townhomes and condominium residences. It has a Robert Trent Jones golf course, is located 9 miles west of Vail and is immediately south of Avon. Located in a pristine, private valley, Beaver Creek offers superb amenities including numerous lodges, restaurants and shops in the center of the Village close to the lifts. Google Map Bachelor Gulch - just west of Avon, just south of US6, between Beaver Creek and Arrowhead, on the mountain, this gated, high-end community is almost entirely ski-in/ski-out. It is composed of single family, townhome and condominium residences. A new Ritz Carlton resort is at the base of the high-speed chairlift with all the amenities of the world famous Ritz spas. Arrowhead - between Avon and Edwards on US Hwy 6, this gated community has single family, duplex and condominium residences built around a championship Jack Nicklaus golf course near the base of the Arrowhead ski area. Bachelor Springs - formerly Knudson Ranch, between Avon and Edwards on US Hwy 6, just east of Arrowhead, but not part of it. This area has a small number of townhome units. Minturn - west of Vail and 2 miles south of I-70 on US Hwy 24 toward Leadville. Mostly single family homes and many shops and restaurants along Main Street. Redcliff - about 10 miles south of Minturn on US Hwy 24 toward Leadville, a small, sleepy community far removed from the main action in the Vail Valley. ![]() Avon - situated at the entrance to Beaver Creek, 9 miles west of Vail.

It also has lodging and a commercial area with a City Market, a Super WalMart, a Home Depot and numerous boutique shops and restaurants.
The area where the old STOL Port (short take-off and landing airport) was located will be developed into several hundred condominium and townhome units. Eagle-Vail - this is an area just off I-70 with single family, duplex and condominium residences built around a public-play golf course and a par-3 golf course. There are no hotels or lodges, but a commercial area exists along US Hwy 6. Mountain Star - Perched high atop the valley floor, amidst rolling hillside tiers and aspen groves, you will find the exclusive gated community of Mountain Star. Breathtaking 360 degree views of the surrounding vistas reaffirm your place in the Valley with incomparable views of Beaver Creek, Bachelor Gulch, Arrowhead and the mountain ranges beyond. Thoughtfully placed for maximum privacy and conservancy, only 90 homes will ever exist in Mountain Star on its 1,300 acres. The remaining 75 percent of the land is surrounded by U.S. National Forest land and Town of Avon open space. Riverwalk Shopping Center offers area residents numerous restaurants, movie theatres and boutique shops of all kinds. Homestead - located on the south side of Edwards, predominently single family, duplex and townhome residences. Singletree - located immediately north of Edwards and north of I-70 predominently single family and duplex residences with some townhomes. Singletree is the location of the Sonnenalp Golf Course. This area has southern exposure with great views and lots of sun; a great family area. ![]() Cordillera - a private, gated community with large single family residences built around four golf courses.
The Valley Course is a Tom Fazio design open in July 97 and the Mountain golf course is a Hale Irwin design opened several years ago, and the par 3 course is a Dave Pelz design also opened in 1997.
Open in Spring 2001, the Jack Nicklaus Summit Course is a splendid example of Rocky Mountain golf.
Just off I-70 and 15 miles west of Vail.
This IS about as good as it gets in the Rockies: beautiful homes, four fabulous golf courses, close to world class skiing, restuartants and shopping. Lake Creek - the Lake Creek Valley is south of Edwards and stretches for about 10 miles.
It consists of single family homes, luxury estates and ranches.
The views and surroundings are some of the best in the mountains.
There are numerous access points to the Holy Cross Wilderness Area and to National Forest. Bellyache Ridge - three miles south of the Wolcott exit and about 1,000 foot elevation gain this is a single family commumity with great views in many directions. Wolcott - small community about 15 miles west of Vail; some single family homes and ranches north of town. Red Sky Ranch - new development and home of two Vail Valley golf courses, a Tom Fazio design and a Greg Norman design.
These two courses will be lined by luxury, single-family residences - more information will be on this website when it becomes available. Eagle - the county seat, about 30 minutes west of Vail, is primarily single family residences, some townhomes. Minutes from the Eagle County Regional Airport. Eagle Ranch - great new residential community; golf, parks, pool and some shopping; immediately south of Eagle. Cotton Ranch - residential community, with a new Pete Dye golf course, just south of Gypsum, prediminently single family and townhome residences. Offering the best prices for golf course living in the Vail Valley. Eagle County Regional Airport - mostly commercial/industrial, between Eagle and Gypsum. Gypsum - residential community, just west of Eagle, predominently single family residences. Brightwater Club - new gated residential community south of Gypsum with single family residences and a Robert Trent Jones golf course. |
